Producer Ca del Conte

lUMBARDY

The new project of the Ca 'del Conte farm was born in 2003 from the will of Paolo and Martina Macconi. They are located in the beautiful hills of Oltrepo Pavese in Case del Conte in the municipality of Rivanazzano Terme, a stone's throw from the Tortona Hills. The company extends for about 20 ha of which 16 are planted with vines and the rest includes woods, fruit trees and a vegetable garden. The vineyards are located on a medium hill on land originating in the Messinian-Tortonian period and are composed of a marly formation, more clayey on the surface and sandy-sandy in depth and are characterized by sulphurous infiltrations. They take care of the vines with the organic method, and therefore the vineyards are always grassed and are grown without the use of herbicides, synthetic chemical pesticides or insecticides. The grassing is managed with periodic mowing and occasional tillage of the soil around the stumps. The aim is to make the vines stronger and healthier from the attacks of pathologies, in order to reduce the copper and sulfur interventions to a minimum. During the vegetative cycle they intervene with green pruning operations, manually selecting the shoots, picking and pruning the vines in case of need. They cultivate vines of pinot noir, chardonnay, pinot gris and italic riesling of 35-40 years with the Geneva Double Courtain plant; in more recent plants they have created a project that involves the cultivation of pinot bianco and timorasso. Their wine is the direct expression of the grapes and the vintage, without reworking, corrections with synthetic chemicals, respecting the times of nature. They let the grapes reach full physiological maturity and manually collect the bunches in small boxes. They do not add sulfur dioxide or other additives to the must and let fermentation take place with the yeasts naturally present on the grapes. The wines are produced without the addition of oenological adjuvants, without any mechanical filtration process in winemaking and bottling.
