Producer Domaine Leflaive

FRANCE, BURGUNDY

II Domaine Leflaive is one of the historic producers of Burgundy. Its history begins more than four centuries ago when Claude Leflaive arrives in Puligny. The true foundation of the current Domaine is in 1920, when Joseph Leflaive, an engineer in maritime engineering who participated in the design and construction of the first French submarine after his marriage to Camille Bietrix du Villars, decided to change his career and began to win and to market its wines that until then were sold to the traders of the area. Starts a program for replanting, expanding and enhancing the vineyard with the help of his friend François Virot. At his death in 1953, the management of the Domaine took control of his four sons, Joseph, Jeanne, Anne and Vincents. Joseph, a Grenoble insurer, took over the administrative and financial management of Domaine, while Vincent, a technical and commercial engineer at Ugine, dealt with marketing. In a few years this team brought the Domaine Leflaive to levels of excellence. In 1986, Olivier Leflaive, Joseph's son, was co-manager with his uncle Vincent. In 1990, Anne-Claude Leflaive, Vincent's enology and daughter, was named co-manager with his cousin. But in 1994 the real breakthrough took place, in fact Anne Claude was appointed property manager. And it was Anne-Claude that brought Domaine Leflaive with the collaboration of Pierre Morey before and then by Eric Remy to the Burgundy Olympics and the world of wine in general. For nearly 25 years, until his death in 1985, Anne-Claude has enormously developed the world reputation of Domanine Leflaive becoming a pioneer of biodynamics, respected by the great terroirs, of the forces of nature and its rigorous systems in permanent research of excellence in winemaking and in the farming of vines, for the production of wines of great finesse and unmatched elegance. Ambassador of his convictions was also at the Ecole du Vin et des Terroirs, which he founded in 2008. Today, Domaine Leflaive has about 25 hectares of land divided into several parcels located in the most famous Appellation of Burgundy, so we can find: and Grands Crus Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier Montrachet; the Premiers Crus, the Puligny-Montrachet Les Combettes, the Puligny-Montrachet La Clavoillon, the Puligny-Montrachet Les Folatières, the Puligny-Montrachet Les Pucelles, the Meursault sous le dos d'Âne and the best Villages: Puligny-Montrachet and Mâcon-Verzé Blanc and Régionale : Pouilly-Fuissé. Harvesting grapes in these plots is done by hand, and each year is carried out by seasoned harvesters returning each year. The winemaking takes place in totally refurbished environments in which the use of noble insulating materials and conditioning technologies allows for vinification in an ideal environment.
