Producer La Vigne du Perron

La Vigna du Perron is located in Villebois, a French commune of 1,142 inhabitants in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. The Domaine is run by François Grinand who left his job as a piano teacher in 1993 to start producing wine. On just 3 hectares, he grows Pinot Noir, Gamay, Mondeuse, Altesse (aka Rousette) and Chardonnay, and together with Jean-Yves Peron manages a Savoy vineyard planted in Jacquère. no pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers or other chemical means are used in the vineyards. His cellar is located in a modest garage in the village and here he presses his grapes in his old press, ferments them in fiberglass tanks and refines the wine in old barrels until they are ready. When ready they are such vibrant expressions of these grapes that one wonders why Bugey is no longer firmly on the map.
