Producer Sistema Vinari
SPAIN, BALEARIC ISLANDS
Eloi Cedó Perelló is a winemaker who powerfully expresses his provenance, reflecting the unique character of the island of Mallorca. Born in Montsant, his winemaking project began in 2010, when he began creating distinctive wines using vineyards grown by friends in his homeland, Catalonia. In 2012, he produced the first vintage of his celebrated Château Paquita cuvée, a tribute to the memory of his late mother. Mallorca, an island of incredible beauty, offers ideal climatic conditions for viticulture: a predominantly sunny climate, tempered by the Mediterranean sea breeze and the cool winds of the Mistral. The local vines are grown on soils called "Call Vermell", characterized by red clay soils rich in iron, which give the wines a distinctive and recognizable minerality. Eloi owns around two and a half hectares of vineyards distributed in small plots scattered in the southeast of the island, in the villages of Felantix and Porreres. The plots vary in size from one hectare to a few dozen square meters, with some older vines dating back to the 1960s. The cultivation is carried out according to organic and biodynamic principles, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability. In addition to his own vines, he buys grapes from friends for some of his creations such as Novetat Total and frequently collaborates with Cati Ribot for his Lo Vilero cuvées, thus helping to keep alive the traditions and authentic expression of the Mallorcan terroirs.
