Producer Poggio Cagnano

TUSCANY

Poggio Cagnano is a charming winery located in the heart of the Maremma Toscana, precisely in Manciano, in the province of Grosseto. This territory, characterized by a mild and breezy climate and proximity to the sea, is particularly suitable for viticulture, favoring an optimal maturation of the grapes. The history of the winery begins in 2002, when Pietro Gobbetti purchased a farm that had been abandoned for over thirty years. After recovering an ancient olive grove, in 2006 he planted the first vineyard on the top of the hill that gives its name to the company. In 2015, Alessandro Gobbetti, Pietro's son, joined the project after working experiences in New Zealand and London, bringing new energy and passion to the management of the winery. Today, Alessandro is supported by his partner Eleonora, a local pastry chef, who actively contributes to the growth of the company. The first harvest took place in 2014 and, since then, Poggio Cagnano has earned recognition for its high-quality natural wines. The winery extends over approximately 5 hectares of certified organic vineyards, located 450 meters above sea level, between Mount Amiata and the Argentario coast. This area of the Maremma Toscana is increasingly appreciated for wines that express great character and identity, rich in freshness and minerality. The vines, aged between 10 and 20 years, grow on sandy soils rich in sandstone and galestro, an ideal combination that gives the wines freshness, flavor and an elegant structure. The winery focuses on native varieties typical of Tuscany and the Mediterranean area, such as Vermentino, Ansonica, Sangiovese, Alicante and Ciliegiolo. The philosophy of Poggio Cagnano is based on natural and sustainable methods, avoiding the use of chemical interventions both in the vineyard and in the cellar to preserve biodiversity and plant health. Fermentations occur spontaneously with minimal human intervention, guaranteeing authentic and genuine wines, with extremely low levels of sulphites. The company's future ambition is to reach a production of around 25,000 bottles per year, continuing to enhance the winemaking heritage of the Maremma Toscana.
