Australia

Although very young in terms of age and experience, the Australian wine industry has gained an influence and authority in the wine universe that is unmatched. The Australian wineries are able to offer both the domestic and the international market a complete range of wines ranging from white to dry reds, from natural sweet wines or botryts to Sherry, Tokaji and Porto substitutes. Even more important is the fact that the Australian companies are able to offer wines with a well defined and unmistakable character, that is, in some territorial way: the dry Semillion of the Hunter Valley, the botryl Riesling of the Clare Water, the Siray of the Barrosa Valley, the Cabernet Sauvignon of Coonowarra, the liqueur Muscat of Victoria and the sparkling wines of the Yarra Valley. The king of the vines is Syrah, here chaimato Shiraz, followed by Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Semillon, Pnot Nero, Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc.Australian wine regions are found almost all in the southern part of the continent which is the freshest one. The largest region is the one called South Australia where more than 50% of all Australian wines are produced. In this region we find the denominations of Barosa Valley famous for its Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Grenache, Clare Valley where they produce excellent Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, Mclaren Valley appreciated for Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Cabrnet Sauvignon, finally the fresh Coonowarra renowned for Cabernet Sauvignon. To the south-east of southern Australia we find Victoria, the smallest of the Australian regions. Here you will find sweet and rich wines such as Moscati and Toky liqueur produced in the denomination Rutherglen, and delicate Pinot Noir obtained in the Yarra Valley. The region of New South Wales is famous above all for the production of widely consumed wines but in the denominations of Hunter Valley, Mudge and Orange one can find wines based on high quality Semillion, Chardonnay, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. In the region of Western Australia we find the name of Margaret River that produces excellent Cabernet Sauvignon and Semillon, and Great Southern where the specialty is Riesling. To the south of the Victoria region we find Tasmania where some producers have started to vinify Pinot Nero and Chardonnay with good results.
