L\'ALTRO NEBBIOLO

Nebbiolo is a typical grape of Piedmont, native to the Langhe. It owes its name probably to the presence of pruina on the peel, so much as to make them seem covered by the "fog", while others think it would be related to the late ripening of the grapes that often obliges to harvest at the time of the first autumn fog. In the Langhe it is used to produce Barolo and Barbaresco but also Nebbiolo base. It is also cultivated in other areas where it changes its name and organoleptic characteristics, due to the difference of the land in which it grows. In Valle d'Aosta it is called Picotendro, and it is used to produce the Donnas. Moving further east, in Alto Piemonte, it is called Spanna and comes under many names, from Boca to Gattinara, from Ghemme to Fara, from Bramaterra to the coasts of sesia. Finally, we find Lombardy, in the Valtellina area, where it takes the name of Chiavennasca, and where it is used to obtain the Valtellina and the Sfurzat.
