Basilicata

Basilicata is located in Southern Italy, and the cultivation of vines in this region is very ancient. Before the Greeks and then the Romans produced wine so much that the famous poet Orazio wrote some information about it. Today the main grape is the Aglianico which finds its highest expression in the Aglianico DOCG of the Vulture Superiore, a denomination that is on the slopes of the Vulture Volcano. Other denominations are: the Terra Val d'Agri, in the province of Potenza, characterized by a fairly rigid climate, where international vines are cultivated such as Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and the Malvasia Bianca native of Basilicata. In the province of Matera we find the DOC homonym where we cultivate the Greek, a white grape vine, the primitive and the rare Moro, two red berry vines. In the small denomination Grottino di Roccanoca wines are produced from Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Malvasia Nera of Basilicata, Montepulciano and Malvasia Bianca of Basilicata.
