Producer Domaine du Coulet

FRANCE, RHONE

The Domaine du Coulet is located in the town of Cornas, on the Côtes du Rhône hills. A great interpreter of the southern Rhône, the Domaine was acquired by Matthieu's grandfather, the current owner, at the end of the Second World War. Today it stretches for 18 hectares of vineyards planted on the hills dominated by granite for the Cornas and limestone for the Côtes du Rhône. The vineyards are cultivated with Syrah, Roussanne, Marsanne and other typical varieties of the area, and as often happens in this part of the Rhone valley, it is a patchwork of tiny vines and the wines are the result of assemblages aimed at enhancing a non-unique terroir. To favor all this the vineyards are bred in a biodynamic regime, with the use of homeopathic infusions, the sulfur-based treatments are carried out with some powders from a mineral and non-oil source, while the land is worked with mules and horses. In the cellar the winemaking is delicate to let the wine be able to express its territory and its vintage because, as Matthieu states, its purpose is to create 100% grape wines, and therefore it is up to us only not to spoil it. The tendency of Domaine du Coulet is to direct the wines style towards finesse, freshness and elegance.
