Piccolo Podere del Ceppaiolo
The Piccolo Podere del Ceppaiolo is located in Bastia Umbra, a beautiful Umbrian town near Assisi. It was born as a project by Danilo Marcucci and Riccardo Pennaforti with the aim of conceiving craft wines in the strictest sense of the term. The two started cultivating a very small vineyard with a size of 0.6 hectares, with only 4 rows of Malvasia Bianca Lunga, Trebbiano, Grechetto, Uva Pecora, San Colombano and Verdello, bred with the Palmetta training system on two levels with a double guyot as it was used more than a century ago. Recently they have rented one hectare of vineyard planted with Canaiolo, Sangiovese, Vernaccia and Sagrantino. The vineyards, which are located on calcareous clayey soils and in a well-ventilated hillside position, up to 400 meters above sea level, are managed without any synthetic chemical product, and the harvest is manual with rigorous selection of the bunches. The winemaking does not deliver the fruit to the use of technologies or to products alien to the territory, it occurs with spontaneous fermentations with indigenous yeasts, without temperature control, without filtration or addition of sulphites in any phase. The wines of the Piccolo Podere del Ceppaiolo are absolutely to be found because they reflect the practices and history of the Umbrian territory.
