Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

Domaine Zind-Humbrecht

The Zind-Humbrecht company is located in the village of Turckheim, not far from the German border. The Domaine was born in 1959 by the melting of the vineyards of the Humbrecht family, winegrowers at Gueberschwihr and Zind, winegrowers Wintzenheim. Before then, the two families produced and market wines in their own name. Producers of wine from father to son from the Thirty Years' War (1620), the Humbrecht family is one of the oldest Alsatian families producing wine. The start of the company was crucial to Leonard's arrival in the early sixties. After a period of study in Burgundy, he decided to return to Alsace and to win the grapes of each vineyard individually, until then in Alsace it was common practice to make wines with different grapes coming from different vineyards, without denominations nor cru. Leonard began his job by recapturing existing olds so far abandoned because they were too hard to work. Today, in the place of Leonard since 1989, the son of the company is his son Olivier Humbrecht Margaret who in his father's footsteps decided to transform the Domaine into biodynamic in 2003 and to improve the quality of the vineyard wine. The Domaine Zind-Humbrecht now grows about 40 hectares of vineyards located in Thann, Hunawhir, Gueberschwihr, Wintzenheim, Niedermorschwihr and the majority of them, about 20 hectares, in Turckheim. Annual production varies between 10,000 and 18,000 bottles. Since 1992, the cellars and buildings of Domaine Zind-Humbrecht have been moved to Route de Colmar, in the heart of the Herrenweg de Turckheim vineyard. Surely the Domaine Zind-Humbrecht is one of the best in Alsace and helped write a piece of history in this region
